The Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, in his capacity as Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has made new appointment of various officers while redeploying those retired into the civil service. the following appointments: 

At the helm of defence

 Major General Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga has been appointed Commander of the Malawi Defence Force replacing Nundwe.  Additionally Namathanga has been  also been promoted to the rank of full General.

 The newly appointed Deputy Commander of the Malawi Defence Force is Major General Davis​ Sesatino Mtachi who has also been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

 Brigadier General Elias Mpaso has been appointed Army Commander (Land Forces) and has been promoted to the rank of Major General.  The happy news also fallen on Brigadier Francis Blessings Kakhuta-Banda who has retained his position as Maritime Force Commander but has been promoted to the rank of Major General.

It also pleased the commander in chief of armed forces the president Muntahrika to appointed a new Air Force Commander Brigadier General in the name of  Ian Macleod Chirwa.  Chirwa has also been has been promoted to the rank of Major General.

The stamen Colonel Harrison Kandula has been appointed Air Force Deputy Commander and has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

 The statement from the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC), further said Colonel Desmond Chawanda has been appointed Deputy Army Commander (Land Forces) at the same time promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

The appointments and promotions which are with immediate effect have also seen. Colonel Richard Tobias Chagonapanja remaining as Deputy Maritime Force Commander with a promotion to the rank of Brigadier General.

Following the appointment that have been made, the Office of President and cabinet says General Vincent Nundwe (Rtd) and Lieutenant General Clement Namangale (Rtd) will be assigned other duties in the Public Service.
