The first phase of voter registration exercise for the forthcoming fresh Presidential elections which began on Saturday in some district across the country, has been marred with low turnouts.
For example, in Nsanje district, at Khulubvi centre where GT visited, 5 people were seen registered by close of business on Saturday.
Supervisor for the centre, Ephraim Loppah, blamed the low turnout to lack of sensitization among MEC officials and other stakeholders on the voters registration.
The voters registration is coming at a time when people in the country have lost trust in the Malawi Electoral Commission following the nullification of the May 21 presidential election by the Constitution court over several irregularities.
The first phase of the voters registration comprises of kalonga, Chitipa, Salima, Blantyre, Chikwawa and Nsanje.
