A Chikwawa based journalist representing Ufulu Radio, Macmillan Mozeyo, is battling for life at Chikwawa District hospital after unknown assailants have attacked him during the night of Wednesday, April 22.
Both Mozeyo and Ufulu FM Deputy Director of News, Arnold Mnelemba, have confirmed the development saying the matter has been reported to police and Media Institute of Southern Africa, MISA Malawi Chapter.
Speaking in an interview with GT on Thursday, Mnelemba said he believes the assailants were after Mozeyo’s life for writing a story that suggests that a Chikwawa based Covid 19 patient may not have tested positive for the virus.
The alleged patient, Ishmael Maluwa, from Singireti Village, Traditional Authority, T/A Ngabu in Chikhwawa, told Mozeyo that the health authorities provided him with two different results.
Meanwhile. Chairperson for Media Institute of Southern Africa, MISA Malawi Chapter, Tereza Ndanga, has condemned the barbaric act saying this has no room in a democratic country such as Malawi.
