APM refuses to sign to electoral reform bills and fire commissioners

By Mike Gwadani

Malawi President Peter Mutharika has refused to sign all four electoral bills submitted to his office by Parliament.

In a statement signed presented by Presidential Press Secretary Mgeme Kalirani said Mutharika decided not to sign the bills because they infring other people’s rights.

This means that the bills will have to be tabled in Parliament after 21 days.

Meanwhile in a related development Mutharika has also refused to fire Malawi Electoral Commission Commissioners and Chairperson as recommended by Parliament.
