One of the leading corporate individuals in Malawi Ocean Industries Limited has set pace for other companies to emulate in protecting it workers and contributing to the prevention of the Corona Virus in Malawi.

The company announced its special financial  package to be given it its employees as the company moved in to close for a 14 days in order to contribute towards managing the infection probability of the corona virus which was first confirmed in Lilongwe.

The General Manager for Ocean Industries Limited ( OIL), Jagadeesh Kumar disclosed that the company resolved  to send over 100 employees on a two week paid holiday responding to the measures President Mutharika announced last Saturday to ensure social distance in various places .

“We have given each employee salary advance and paid leave for two weeks as a special financial package that will help them during the time they would stay home helping prevention of the spread of the COVID 19,” Kumar said.

OIL has decided to give the two week holiday as a preventive measure to ensure that its employees are safe and are able to return to work in health condition because “ we value our human resource hence the holiday”  said Kumar.

Kumar disclosed that besides the financial package, the company has also given each staff, health kits to use at home and food hampers.

“We have done this this to cushion them from the exogenous shock that will come as result of this COVID 19 pandemic and any other health hazards.” Kumar Said.

Ocean Industries Limited is one of the leading companies that manufactures plastics. The company is also into real estate property and car hire businesses.

Meanwhile The Asian Business community (ABC) has in Malawi has advised each other to go on self-Isolation for 14 days beginning 9th April Mid night. This follows an observation of the current situation in relation to COVID 19 trends in Malawi
