A health expert says Malawi risks an escalation of the spread of corona virus if political parties in the Country continue to ignore observing health measures aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.

Recently Malawians have been patronising campaign meetings in huge crowds without observing social distancing and wearing face masks.

“One wonders whether our politicians takes their supporters lives seriously, I mean they themselves are seen at times wearing face masks and yet they can’t control the crowd that gathers to watch their rallies.

Just imagine the rate of covid-19 inflections if one or two of the people who are at the rally has  or have covid-19 it would be a catastrophe “said she.

She therefore called on all political parties taking part in the forthcoming Presidential rerun election to adhere to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) call for the parties to use other means creative means of reaching out to their subjects.

Said she, “let them come up with other ways of reaching out to the electorates otherwise if the trend continues then next government may have a highest number of confirmed Covid -19 cases in the region if not the whole continent” Malawians are expected to go to the polls on June 23, 2020 following the upholding of the Constitution Court ruling that annulled the May 2019 presidential election results
