Minister responsible for Energy, Newton Kambala, says heads will roll in all the statutory bodies under his ministry as one way of sanitising the organisations amidst reports of rampart Corruption.
Speaking on Capital FM during the capital straight talk program recently Kambala said there is need to remove all corrupt officials so that the Tonse Administration campaign promise can be achieved.
Said he, “As you are aware there are numerous suspected cases of corruption in these bodies this can affect our achievement of some campaign promises such as the creation of 1Million jobs which can only be achieved if we have a vibrant electrical power system but in order for us to successfully achieve that we need to get rid off all corrupt officials because these are enemies of development so heads will indeed roll in these organisations”
Kambala cited the K50 billion loan that the Electricity Supply Commission of Malawi (ESCOM)has with private banks as one of the key areas that needs to be thoroughly investigated.
“That loan is huge one by any means so as of now, I’m scrutinising the financial report which the management gave me and luckily being someone from the business community I know how to read such reports and once that is done we shall take appropriate action” said Kambala.
He also says the ministry has put the issue of persistent power black outs as a priority.
“Coming from the business community I’m well versed with how this issue affects business which in turn negatively affects the Country’s economy so our main focus now is to ensure that by the end of next year this issue should be history” Said he.
