Minister of Gender, Community and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati has called on NGO Board to deregister all Non-Governmental Organizations which do compliment government policies through various projects in the country.
Kaliati, made the call in Nsanje when she visited the district to appreciate the projects that are being implemented by various Non- governmental organizations.
Speaking in an interview with Generation Times, Kaliati expressed concern that a number of NGOs leaders are enriching themselves at the expense of the poor Malawians in the district observing that Nsanje is still in abstract poverty with some areas not seeing tangible projects despite the presence of many NGOs implementing various interventions in the district.
The Gender minister has however, challenged the NGO Board to monitor and deregister all NGOs which are operating illegally.
Meanwhile Chief Executive Officer for NGO Board, Voice Mhone, has conceded that lack of coordination between the his organization and the NGOs operating in Nsanje, is the major challenge that has contributed for poor performances of the NGOs.
Currently, the country has close to 766 international NGOs.
